The Department for Education stated in a 2019 report that 14.9% of all pupils in the UK have special educational needs (SEN 2109). This equates to 1,318,300 children. The report states that those qualifying for free school meals are more likely to need support that others. (34% as opposed to 13%).
Families living in poverty are less likely to be able to afford resources to assist in child development as they struggle with paying utility bills, food and clothing.
At the Banana Box Toy Project, we do get requests for toys for children with Specialist Educational Needs and Disabilities and aim to provide suitable resources for those affected.
